DIY friendship necklace

IMG_5680

I came across this idea online to make a necklace with some strings. It works with the same technique as a normal friendship bracelet and is easy to make.

This is what you’ll need:

  • Different colours of thread
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • A clasp
  • Glue
  • 2 jump rings
  • A chain

Cut your threads to about 20 cm. I used 12 strings, but I recommend using more so It will become thicker. Make sure the threads at the left side are mirrored to the right side.

IMG_5644

Tape down your threads. It will be smart to use a clasp or something to hold on to the threads even better.

IMG_5645

Start by making a four with your left outer string.

IMG_5646

Put the string through the opening.

And pull!

IMG_5648

Do this twice with each string until you reach your middle.

IMG_5649

Take the right outer string and make a reverse four.

IMG_5650

Put the string through and pull! Repeat twice at every string until you reach the middle.

IMG_5653

Tie a knot with the middle two strings. Repeat these steps until you like the length of your work.

IMG_5664

Add some glue to the strings to prevent the knots from unraveling

IMG_5666

Cut off all the extra threads.

IMG_5670

Take a jump ring and open it.

IMG_5672

Push it through the threads and add the chain. Close the jump ring.

Cut off the chain to the length you like it and secure with a jump ring on the other side.
